EVITECH thanks the 200+ visitors who came to see the last outcomes presented on its booth at the APS event in Paris from 24th to 26thSeptember 2013, and in particular this year the LYNX software, for crowd supervision, and the new small MERLIN module (whose size is approximately 4 inches x 4 inches x 1.5 inch) which enables a totally performing video analytics application over a 5 Watts consumption box, tropicalized, and operating under temperatures as far as -20°C to +80°C.
INTEL architectures (core, atom, xeon) usually running video analytics applications consume several tens of watts, and are limited to an environment constraint in the range +10°C to +45°C, thus necessitating one or more fan(s), and hence operating only in a clean, cooled, and wet room. On the contrary, MERLIN, which is based on the latest and most powerful processors, with low power consumption, can withstand in a simple box installed outdoor, where its connectors will be protected from rain (its boards are tropicalized and hence protected from humidity).
Processors currently embedded in CCTV cameras are not powerful enough to provide a high quality video analytics application (detecting every target visible in the image with less than 0.5 false alarms per day.camera in average).
MERLIN is thus the adequate component for a low power consumption video analytics application of high quality, (e. g. supplied by batteries, sustained by a small solar panel, wind fan, or night lighting), and possibly using a HF transmission system, only for sending alarms (thus asleep more than 99% of the time).
